Things I’m Loving This Spring…

With Spring in full swing and Summer right around the corner… I’m feeling like myself again (IYKYK). I’m so ready to create some colourful alfresco dinner parties and experiment with recipes. I’ve been feeling more creative when it comes to my reno, so I’ve been pinning inspo pictures on Pinterest like no tomorrow. I’ve decided to pull together what I’m loving and what’s inspiring me right now. Keep scrolling to find out what they are…

Spring trends I’m loving:

  • “Food art”, is all over my Pinterest, and I’m really enjoying how people are replacing flowers with vegetables or mixing them together, I did this with carrots and ranunculus at Easter but I think it’s something that works all year round. My local organic store had the most gorgeous vegetables so I used some tomatoes as placeholders for my pizza night, as well as carrots and asparagus as weights for napkins at my alfresco dinner party - practical and cute!

  • As you know I’m currently renovating my first home - eek very exciting! It’s taking longer than expected and as soon as we tick one thing off the to-do list, another job seems to be added (we currently have light switches hanging on by a wire and holes in the floors!). As this is going to be my first ever home I want to ensure every detail reflects my personal style, so I’m doing my best to stay patient with the process and avoid rushing any decisions I might regret in the future. You can take a look a my Pinterest or reno blog to see what type of vibe I’m going for. I’m completely obsessed with stripes and have already incorporated them into my pink powder room, it’s such a small space I wanted to have it as the eccentric space in the house to make the most of it and give it as much character as possible. I’m in the process of designing my walk-in wardrobe at the moment and toying with the idea of painting a stripe ceiling or pocket door, like the below photos. As you can see, I’m also loving the unexpected red theory & definitely want to incorporate that pop of colour somehow.

  • We’re lucky to have two bathrooms in the house and I’m planning to make this one a little more “boyfriend friendly” with more neutral tones whilst still making it interesting. I fell in love with this mirror and have decided to play around with lighting and space to add a more sophisticated touch. Burgundy/deep red has been the unofficial colour of the year and the plan at the moment is to go for chequered tiles, sourced from my favourite Bert & May, but I’m yet to make a final decision there.

Minimal effort, maximum results: How to impress your guests

I want to start making drinks more of a focus when hosting as they can totally elevate a meal and the general ambience, plus they can look so good when incorporated into a tablescape! Recently, a friend introduced me to Hugo Spritz’s and I’m obsessed with them, feel like this summer will be the year of the Spritz and I want to get adventurous and not just have an Aperol, so here are some of my favourite sparking cocktails you have to try…

You might have seen on socials that my current obsession is making pizza at home and my Ooni is sooo easy to use. I either order the dough directly from them for ease and freeze or use this recipe. I try to recreate the famous @crispw6 Vecna and Picante, I’m yet to perfect it though!

Looking for the ultimate gift for a hostess with the mostess or just want to treat yourself? These are some of my current cult favourites when hosting during this time of year…

Another way to put a Spring twist on your dinner set-ups is using statement homeware products such as the Addison Ross Salt and Pepper Grinders, these add a pop to my tablescapes. Decorative tablecloths and glassware are a great way to switch up simple dinner parties to instantly elevate. Mrs Alice has some great pieces to do this.

I desperately needed to update my pans and knives and I recently received some from Hexclad. I was super impressed with how easy to clean they were and the non stick. Definitely a game changer for cleaning up after a dinner party.

For the bedroom I think mix and match bedding is super cute for spring and brings the cottage core vibe to any room so easily. I love the quality of the Piglet in Bed sheets, they’re lovely and cool as the temperatures rise.

Spring is the perfect opportunity to bring out all your fun homeware pieces. The other day I decided to make my lunch a bit more colourful and used my Marla & Primrose napkins, strawberry bowl from John Lewis and vases from Darlington crystal on John Lewis and it made it so much cuter.

Pieces I have got my eye on:

With love,

Matilda x
