October Round up

After a short break and rebrand of my website, I’m pleased to say that I’m back sharing my monthly favourites with you all. Autumn's in full swing, and I'm loving cosier moments at home. Mornings are all about snuggling up with Pukka ginger tea in bed, and evenings mean scrolling Pinterest with a hot chocolate, all cozied up by the fire.

The past month's been a busy one as I transitioned into self-employment, saying goodbye to the corporate grind. My home is a bit of a hubbub as builders work their magic, but I've also managed to sneak in some travel adventures, like a weekend in Lucca, Tuscany. And, as always, I've been on the hunt for great eats in London, which I can't wait to share with you.

LET’S TALK RENOVATIONS

Okay, so I'm not exactly a renovation pro, but I've always been excited about the idea. Who knew picking out tiles and paint colours could be such a big deal, right? But here's the kicker – I'm super glad I didn't rush through it. I chose pieces that I absolutely fell in love with and tried my best to ensure they'd go together. So, if you're thinking about a bathroom renovation, here's a peek into my journey and where I found all my bathroom treasures.

PINTEREST DREAMS

I admit it; I went on a Pinterest binge for inspiration. Who doesn't? I created a moodboard that helped me visualise my bathroom's final look. It was during this Pinterest journey that I stumbled upon a striped design that I couldn't resist.

THE TILE QUEST

So, let's talk about tiles. I had this clear vision of an elegant yet girly bathroom with a pop of colour for the space. I paid a visit to Bert & May’s Chelsea showroom and walked out with a handful of samples. You know how it goes – colours can be a whole different story in various lighting situations, so checking them in your own space is a must before purchasing. I eventually decided on their Large Hexagon White Marble Tile for the floor and then the Leather & Rolling Frog Skinny Metro Tiles for the shower walls.

THE TASTE OF ITALIAN CHARM

I just returned from a weekend in beautiful Lucca, a city that's been on my bucket list for ages. Lucca is a gem in the Tuscan Hills, known for its Renaissance-era walls that encircle the entire city. Here's a snapshot of the gorgeous weekend, courtesy of 2Italia:

Friday: I took a quick 2-hour flight from London to Pisa. From there, it was a short 30-minute drive to my hotel in Lucca. After freshening up, I headed to a local restaurant called Ciacco for dinner, where I indulged in delicious local meats and cheeses, washed down with a glass of prosecco.

Saturday: I started the day with an unconventional breakfast of gelato – hazelnut and pistachio in a cone, to be precise. We then went on a food tour involving wine tasting at a local cellar, followed by more meat and cheese for lunch. We explored Lucca's streets, shopped at Italian stores, and enjoyed the sunset views from Torre Guingi with an Aperol Spritz in hand.

Sunday: The morning started with a short taxi ride to an authentic vineyard, a place of natural splendour where they take 'homegrown' to a whole new level. The setting was adorned with their very own home grown flowers, fresh produce, and gorgeous outdoor eating areas, creating the perfect ambiance for a wholesome Hen weekend, couple's activity, or a weekend with the girls. We dove into a delightful cooking lesson where we made bruschetta, crostini, ravioli, and tiramisu, all while sipping wine from the surrounding vines.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect, with 28-degree sunshine embracing us all weekend. While London had its final heatwave for summer 2023, I was basking in the Tuscan rays and indulging in delightful local cuisine. So, be sure to add Lucca to your Italian road trip bucket list, and consider booking a weekend getaway with 2Italia. With them, you can leave all the fuss behind and simply savour the enchantment, delicious food, and unforgettable moments this charming city has to offer.

OCTOBER FAVOURITES

No beating around the bush – I'm sharing my current obsessions this month. Think London dining, beauty, style, home decor, and a glimpse of what's on my wishlist.

Here are some of my top picks for where to eat in London this month:

Hjem Kensington: Perfect for a relaxing fika, coffee, and a leisurely stroll around the neighbourhood. Don't miss their delicious chai latte and cardamom bun.

Cinquecento: When you're in the mood for pizza, whether it's for a delivery or an affordable dine-in experience in South West London. Be prepared for a bit of a queue, but their pizza and toppings are worth the wait.

Tacos MX: Mid-week vibes don't get better than this. Head to Fulham on a Tuesday and try their £2 tacos. You might even catch a mariachi band adding to the fun. And don't forget to indulge in their churros with hot chocolate sauce.

Badiani: If you're looking for a sweet treat, make sure to stop by Badiani for the best ice cream in London. The pistachio and dolce vita flavours are absolute must-tries.

Hunter’s Moon: I spent my Anniversary meal here this month, one of our favourite upmarket pubs in London. They offer a wide range of cocktails, starters, and mouth watering steaks.

Sophie's Steakhouse, Soho: While not your typical cosy spot, Sophie's offers a bustling atmosphere and impressive food. The service may not be exceptional, but the food and ambiance more than make up for it.

Terra at Eataly: Located near Bishopsgate, Terra at Eataly is a culinary haven with fresh meats, cheeses, fish, and pasta dishes. Grab some fresh pasta on your way out to take home with you too.

The Londoner Hotel: If you're planning a staycation, The Londoner Hotel is a fantastic choice. Their restaurant, Whitcomb's, has just launched an intimate three-course dinner paired with award-winning Gusbourne vintage wines. Definitely reserve a ticket online soon as they’re expected to sell out.

Sussex, Soho: Embrace a Local & Wild dining experience at Sussex. It's the perfect place for a cosy Sunday roast this autumn and winter.

Nessa, Soho: For a date night or a catch-up with friends, Nessa in Soho is the place to be. Their beef tartare and raviolo are personal favourites.

MY TOP BEAUTY PICKS

When it comes to skincare and makeup, I've got a mix of old faves and exciting newcomers. Cleansing is straightforward with Cerave’s Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser, though I do like to switch things up with Sarah Chapman’s Cleanser or The Inkey List's Oat Cleanser occasionally.

For that ever-desirable radiant glow, Tan Luxe The Face is my trusted ally. I've also been experimenting with mixing Drunk Elephant’s B-Goldi drops into my Augustinus Bader moisturiser. Now, let's delve into makeup. To create the perfect canvas for makeup, Vieve Skin Nova is my go-to. My latest fixation is Westman Atelier, and their Vital Skincare Complex Drops have solidified their place in my essentials for the perfect no-makeup makeup feel to the skin.

Lastly, I also paid a visit to Sarah Chapman’s Skinesis Clinic on Pavilion Road in Chelsea this month, to get a much needed bespoke 90 minute facial. Using state-of-the-art technology and potent cosmeceutical products this experience left my skin positively glowing, even after a single session. I was so thrilled with the results that I couldn't resist buying a voucher for my mum’s birthday present as I was leaving – I just knew she'd enjoy it as much as I did!

MY TOP AUTUMN FASHION PICKS

Dissh: A must-have is their versatile black long-sleeved dress, perfect for effortless style and easy pairing with tights as the weather cools down.

Source Unknown: I've just ordered their Padded Shoulder Maxi Coat in Camel. It's a chic and elegant addition to any fall wardrobe.

Mr. Mittens: For those cozy sweater days, Mr. Mittens has got you covered with their selection of stylish and warm knitwear. I’ve just ordered their balloon sleeve crew neck in Mozzarella.

Agolde: An investment for denim, I recently bought the Low Rise Baggy organic-denim jeans and haven’t taken them off. Highly recommend 🍂💃😎

With love,

Matilda x
